Art Critique - bring (1) piece of art and get feedback on it from your peers.

All are welcome!

The Hortense Miller Garden in Laguna Beach has invited SOCALPAPA to paint with them again and to show paintings in the Aviary Gallery, part of the historic Mid-Century Modern home built by the Millers in the 1950s.

This is a non-juried show for SOCALPAPA members only!

All works must be of the HM Garden property or of views from the property;

plein air or studio. This show will be limited to one painting per artist.

There are a limited number of spaces available to us to paint the beautiful gardens in Laguna Beach ahead of this showcase.

Registration will be available soon on the website.

Schedule of Paint Out Dates:

Thursday, March 14 9am - noon

Saturday, March 16 9am - noon

Saturday, April 6 - Open House morning and afternoon shifts

(This will be during the annual Open house and artists would be painting as many visitors tour the garden.

A shuttle bus is provided from a localchiurch parking lot.)

10am - 12:30 Noon - 2:30

Thursday, April 25 - 9am - noon

Friday, March 8

Crescent Bay Overlook

Laguna Beach

8 am. Take PCH into Laguna, go South at Crescent Bay Drive down to the corner at Crescent Bay Point Park, overlooking the bay. Dress warmly, it’s very windy on this bluff. Restrooms are all down at the bottom of Crescent Bay ramp to the beach—to reach, go back to PCH, R to Cliff Drive, R down the street and park near the ramp down to Crescent Bay. Restrooms at the sand.

Saturday, March 16th

Hart Park

City of Orange

9am. Just north of the 22 Fwy at Glassell. Take an immediate Right into the paved creek bed wash/parking lot. Judy Schroeder, watercolorist and former Gallery/Studio owner, and Socalpapa member, will be demonstrating line and wash watercolor at a small adobe near the covered pavilion and flagpole. Demonstration should last 1-1/2 hours, to allow members to paint also. Paint the Sycamores, or houses and vegetation bordering the park. Restrooms available.

* Demo by SOCALPAPA Member Judy Schroeder, watercolors, about 1- 1.5 hours.

Friday, March 22

Mid-Back Bay Drive

Newport Beach

9 am. Take Jamboree South from the 73 or 405 freeways down into Newport Beach. Right at San Joaquin Hills Rd., to bottom of hill, go Right 1/2 mile to parking lot, or park in turnouts along the Drive. Views of the Bluffs and wetlands. Should be a port-a-potty at the lot.

Saturday, March 30th

San Juan Capistrano Mission

San Juan Capistrano

9 am. There is an entry fee, (Seniors, about $12.) Yearly Membership passes available.

Take the 5 Fwy down to Hwy 74 Lake Elsinore road. Right at end of off ramp, and immediate Right on Old Mission Road.

Park on the left in the pay lots, $2/hr. Restrooms available in the Mission.
