The results are in: Our first Paint Out & Sale at the Shipley Nature Center was a success!
 
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a wonderful day! 
The 18 participating artists, volunteers, Friends of Shipley board, and of course, all the visitors who interacted with our artists on the trails, attended the reception and took home their favorite painting! 
Six paintings were sold and we all had a lovely day filled with art and nature.

2026 sign-ups for Muth Gallery are now open.
 
Slots to hang your plein air style paintings of Orange County locations in Muth Gallery are now open.
Each artist who signs up will have a three-month period to display their work at Muth Interpretive Center along with two other artists. 
Each artist will have one wall. Work must be framed, ready to hang from a wire on the back, and depict locations in Orange County.
 
The slots are:
January 5-April 6
 April 6 - July 6
  July 6 - October 5
        October 5 - January 4 (2027)

Muth Bin Reminders
 
Since so many wonderful artists are now contributing to the bin at Muth, we want to remind you of a few guidelines.
 
1. All work displayed at Muth must be original plein air-style depicting outdoor locations in Orange County. 
Animals, plants or people must be shown in a landscape setting.
2. Flat panels only, no foam-core backing or gallery wrap.
3. Mat board backing is suggested to make your work look more professional. 
4. Obtain and attach a sales slip for each painting from the green SOCALPAPA notebook at the front desk, and fill out a form to list your work in the green book.
5. Paintings must be in a cellophane envelope.
6. Suggested minimum price: $50 for smaller paintings $75 for larger work.
7. Due to space considerations, we are no longer going to accept prints.

Member's Holiday Party

The Holidays are almost here and we are getting ready to celebrate!
SOCALPAPA will host it annual  Holiday Party on
Thursday, December 11th from 5:30PM to 8:30PM 
at the clubhouse at 1854 Port Westbourne Place
Newport Beach, CA 92660.
Please sign up on the website under events and let us know if you are bringing a guest by indicating 2 people.
Also, if you would like to bring an appetizer or a dessert let us know. 
If you would like to you may also bring a small gift for the gift exchange.

 PAINT OUTS

Generic Save the date Paint Outs

Friday, Dec 5
9 am
Santiago Oaks Regional Park

Dawn Buckingham mentor day.

$3 entry fee.

Take the 55 Fwy to Orange and exit Katella going East, the road becomes Villa Park Road and then Santiago Canyon Road. 

Go a couple miles and go Left at Windes, and then bear right at the jog, about a mile to the entrance.

 Park in the Main Lot or auxiliary lot on the right. Look for the SOCALPAPA feather flag.

 

Dawn will be around to mentor anyone who would like help. Paint on the other side of the creek trails,

or near the restrooms East of the main lot overlooking the canyon.


Thursday, Dec. 11

SOCALPAPA Members’ Holiday Party
1854 Port Westbourne Place, Newport Beach, at the Clubhouse. Register online at the SOCALPAPA website so we know you’re coming.

Saturday, Dec. 13

9am

O'Neill Regional Park


$5 entry Fee. Take the 5 Fwy North on El Toro Road through Lake Forest all the way to Cooks Corner at Live Oak Canyon Road, go Right a few miles to the park entrance on the Right. Go through gate and wind around past the creek bed and around up the hill and go Left at the top 1/4 mile for views over the canyon. Restrooms down at Main campsites by the creek.


Friday, Dec. 19

9am

Black Star Canyon

From the City of Orange going Southeast from Jamboree take Santiago Canyon Road a few miles and go Left on Silverado Canyon Road turnoff, and make an immediate Left onto Black Star Canyon Road.

Paint the red hills one mile along the road or park at the gate and walk through for views farther down the road.

No Restrooms.


Saturday, Dec. 27

8 am

Los Rios Street

San Juan Capistrano

 

Take the 5 Fwy South and exit at Ortega Hwy 74. Go Right at the end of the offramp onto Del Obispo,

past the Old Mission Road and wind around past the tracks and Los Rios Street,

go one block and go Right on Adelanto,go all the way down past the paid parking lot

to the free 4 hour limit gravel parking lot around the corner on Ramos Street. Park and walk down Ramos to Los Rios Street.

Paint the cottages, or views down the street or Train Depot and Restaurant.

Restrooms by the paid parking lot behind  the Montaña Adobe or just south of the track crossing.
