in Orange on -NEW! Hilbert Museum Field Trip: March 6 @ 11am
led by one of our members, Diane Ohnemus.
 
Tour "Going Places;" an exhibit featuring nearly 30 watercolor paintings by Timothy Clark. Also on display: "Undiminished: Heroes of California Art" showcasing more than 30 remarkable female artists spanning more than a century. It is a must see. 

We have a group reservation, so no need to make your own. Join us on the day of, at 11am in the lobby of the Hilbert, 167 N. Atchison St, Orange, CA.

Back Bay Plein Air Festival
 
It feels like summer is just around the corner, and with summer comes the Back Bay Show and Festival.
 
Be sure to put these dates on your calendar:
 
April 1st through May 31st enter the Back Bay Show and the Juried Show.
Quick Draw at Muth Interpretive Center July 12.
Juried Show begins Saturday, July 12 and closes with the
Reception at Muth on July 18.
Display Show on the deck of Muth Interpretive Center July 19 and 20.

SOCALPAPA needs you!
We are in the process of filling leadership positions for the 2025 Back Bay Festival -- planning is beginning!
Some of the roles have been spoken for, but we still have a few to fill.
Please let us know if you would be willing to chair one or more of the following committees for the 2025 Back Bay Festival - open ones are in red:
1. Committee chairs for 2025 Back Bay Show (2): NEEDED
2. Sponsors - Diane Snyder  and Sangeetha Golpalakrishnan
3. Art Classes during Festival Week - Sandra Morrison
4. Hospitality (Food and Welcome Table) - Lorraine Dawson

 8. Juried show: NEEDED

New Spring Dates now available for SOCALPAPA Members to view and paint the garden in yet another season.

The following dates have been added to the calendar.
Times are 9:00 am until 12:00 pm each day.

Saturday. March 29 - OPEN HOUSE - 3 artists may register for each session, Contact Diane to save your spot!
Morning session - 10:15 am - 12:30 pm

Balboa Island
Newport Beach
  
8am. Paint by the Ferry Landing. Take Jamboree Rd S a few miles from The 5 Fwy or 405 Fwy past PCH down the hill over the bridge on Marine Ave.Go Right near the end on Park Ave, go a few blocks, go Left on Agate Ave. and go left at the alleyway before the ferry landing, and go back to Opal and park on that one way street.
(If you don’t mind getting boxed in by the line for the ferry you might park on Agate.)
Paint the Pavilion or ferries or boats in the Harbor. Restrooms at the Landing.

Friday, March 7th
@9am
 Old Orange County Courthouse
Santa Ana
 
Take the 5 Fwy into Santa Ana, go south a mile or so on Broadway to W. Civic Center Drive.
The Old Courthouse is on the SE Corner. Park in front or back of the building, or metered parking lot across the street. 
See the SO ALPAPA Member's Show, Omnivision: Art Beyond Boundaries, while there.
Restrooms inside. Street views, or paint the old historic building.

Saturday, March 15th
@8am 
Laguna Main Beach
Laguna Beach
 
Arrive by 8am to get parking. Take the 133 Fwy (Broadway in town) South to PCH.
Park in metered parking on the street or in lots. Paint near the old lifeguard tower toward the old Hotel, or paint north to the cliffs below Las Brisas Restaurant. Restrooms by the cliff.

Friday, March 21st
@8am
 Peters Canyon Reservoir
 
From the 5 Fwy, take Jamboree Rd. North until almost to Chapman Ave. Go Left at Canyon View Ave A block, the parking lot is on the left, opposite Old Camp Road.
$3 parking lot fee. Restrooms/portapotty. 
Paint Lake views or hillside and trees, horse riding trails, etc.

Saturday, March 29
@9am
 Crystal Cove Cottages
Newport Coast
 
Take PCH a mile South from Newport Coast Drive, (or go North from Laguna Beach) to the Los Trancos parking lot.
Pay online by scanning. If you have a Golden Bear Senior Park pass, just park and leave the card on your dashboard.
Take the $2 Shuttle down to the cottages, or walk down through to the tunnel under PCH. 
Paint by the Green House or Beachcomber Restaurant or walk south to the bluffs and rocks if tide allows, or paint the iconic cottages. Restrooms in couple of places. See the Plein air Gallery called the Store for inspiration.
