STEVE KELL DEMO - March 23 - Laguna Canyon / Big Bend
An early retirement option from USAir allowed Steve to return full time to the easel. Plein air painting was becoming popular, and to deepen his knowledge of the basics, he studied with Leonardo Scarola, and eventually ventured outside with a variety of respected plein air artist instructors. Embracing the challenge and mystery of oil paint and light on a two-dimensional surface was life-changing. The adventure, the quest, the goal was to lay something on the canvas that embodies the spirit of the scene, as well as the beauty, and in that, was the ultimate satisfaction.
Although represented by several galleries in California, he likes participating in juried plein air events around the country, and shows offered by art organizations to which he belongs.
Steve has offered three-day plein air painting classes at San Clemente Art Supply and currently offers indoor classes at Westervelt's Gallery in Laguna Niguel.

FEATURED ARTIST Anthony Salvo
“I want to be deliberate, fresh and spontaneous in my approach to painting – to convey that unspoken energy into every painting, telling my story – letting the viewer write the words”.
Anthony Salvo has lived in Southern California since the age of twelve. That’s when he discovered oil painting. Always drawing and painting as a young child, he knew that art would be his vocation. He attended Art Center College of Design and graduated with honors, receiving a BFA in Graphic Design and Packaging. Changing paths to fine art after 25 years directing his own Newport Beach design firm, his award-winning paintings are now in collections all over the country. Anthony has featured articles in Laguna Beach Art Patron magazine, Plein Air magazine, and , “Artist to Watch”. in South West Art magazine.
Anthony combines the color sense, composition and esthetic qualities acquired from years of design experience into his newly found love of painting “en plein air.” Plein Air painting has given Anthony the enthusiasm to spend much more time, thought and consideration on the ordinary beautiful day or object that life puts in front of him — and passionately portray them on canvas.
In addition to being a long-time Socalpapa member, Anthony is a Laguna Plein Air Painters Association Signature Member, California Art Club Artist Member, and Orange County CAC Chapter Chairman, represented by Studio 2817 in Newport Beach and Studio 7 Gallery in Laguna Beach.
